Happy Mother's Day For British Mums Everywhere

Sonata:
Mothers Day is celebrated on different Sundays all over the world , so today this French card is really just for mothers in Britain .

But , whether you've baked her a Simnel Cake and trudged miles on your day off to give it to her Lark Rise To Candleford style or sent her flowers or help her out every day .... or just remember her with love

know that she thinks there should be a Daughter's Day and a Son's Day too . Because being a mother is perfect the year round , however sentimental and gooey that may sound !

Thank. God. It's 11.02pm in Australia. It is not Mothers Day in Australia. Every single year we get the Uk version wrong (i.e. completely forget). Just zipping out to the studio to tell the Mr to GET ON THE PHONE NOW! Thanks for saving our bacon this year.

I wish your last sentence were true.

I used to send my Mum her card in April until I realised that German Mother's Day falls in May. I think she was more nonplussed than annoyed. Just another instance of my thoughtlessness.

Being one who loathes sentimentality (unless it's from me, when it doesn't count because I wouldn't recognise it), and seeing it mixed with blatant commerce, I have very mixed feelings about Mother's Day, mostly cynical, and fear that I have unwittingly influenced my son; he usually forgets all about it until too late. It could be called Filial Guilt Day here...... (unsympathetic maternal laughter)...

Dear mummy - I remember making you stuff at school: little hand made roses out of bread! (for heavens sake).. and something with nails and thread, and (was it father's day?) a clear ashtray and stamps stuck face up in the bottom... although I have not sent you a card or made you an object out of stuff... you know I....

Glad somebody has remembered the Simnel cake and the flowers and the trudging miles - wasn't that what it was all about originally? Not phoning up guiltily this evening (boys/men 1, 2 and 3) saying 'Sorry mum, but Happy Mother's Day' - and knowing that I'd forgive them anything....
