Shhhh , The Football's On .... And On

Sonata:

I don't know about you , but I find a little of the Beautiful Game goes a long way . But it wouldn't pay to say that here . Holland's playing .... nay ! Holland's going to WIN
and the world's gone orange ( that being the national colour ) .
Whole streets have gone orange

Shop windows have gone orange

Dinner's gone orange ( not just any old pizza this , I hasten to add , but Parma Ham and Crayfish Pizza by chef Frank Huson .)

Even the local pet shop has a special offer on very patriotic-looking goldfish tomorrow

But one thing's certain

It'll all end in tears for someone in three weeks .

You bet!yellow and green for us!It goes a very long way but can be avoided, just hope a miracle happens and we win the first one.

Its the same over here. People have even been painting their roofs with the George cross. Must look like a helicopter landing pad from above.

England's gone red and white. Every car has flags flying in the slipstream and every pub is festooned with England colours. It'll end in tears...

I should have known something would come along to replace the Stanley Cup mania of the past few weeks! Greece has already gotten their a-- kicked by Korea this morning [according to those who care around here!]And now Argentina and Nigeria are duking it out....As for me, I'm hiding out in my sewing room!

Thank you for visiting my blog. As a lover of vintage buttons and all things miniature, I will enjoy perusing your blog.

What's football? Is it on?
Is that why cars and houses and garden gates and roofs are festooned with the George Cross?

I stay well away from any such doings. Norman Tebbit
wouldn't like me. That's foreigners for you, wouldn't pass the cricket test or football test or any other sporting contest test.

I remember with extreme clarity the post game joy explosion on the streets of the Hague when you lot beat the Germans at some World Cup or other. I'd love to get that hyped up about the Aussies, but when your team is called the 'Socceroos', there just isn't a lot to get seriously excited about...

Just for you, as requested, and nothing to do with your post. Sorry!:-

I really never imagined , when we started this blog two years ago ,that anyone would ever write a haiku for us .... How cool is that !!!
And you can go to jinksy's own blog and see her post about being rudely woken by rooks .... then you'll understand why I'm so delighted by her response to my complaint about being woken by neighbour's motorbike .

Then here's another little ditty on the football theme, S&S, as written on Fridge Soup! Love, jinksy x

Oh, no, not football!
I block my ears to the noise
and dream of quiet;

write soothing haiku.
Unconnected to the game,
I play on my own.

Red and white for us... still it will soon be over. Jinksy's haiku says it all for me! P x

You're right about going all-out with the orange. Looks good though...and love the Dutch word "goudvissen"-more fun to say than goldfish! All I remember of my Mum's attempt at learning German once, was the word "vater rassen". Don't think the words goudvissen or vater rassen would be of much use to me should I choose to travel to either of those countries.

Such a loony game, soccer. All that stress and anticipation for a game in which there may not even be a score. Madness.
I don't know why they don't just cut out the running around and dribbling - or whatever it is they do - and cut straight to the penalty shoot-out.
And let's not mention those vuvuvuzelas ....
