Smitonius:
Thanks to all those who commented about cats, health and food recently... we have decided for a gentle mixed regime: the vet recommended pouch of food in the morning, a mix of the vet recommended dry biscuits with her favourites to graze on, and, in the evening, we feed her a little poached fish or chicken. It is amazing how much difference these little changes have made: she is drinking less frenetically, hardly ever howls, and is overall happier and more relaxed.
We have had a decorator in - a proper 'handy man' - who has not only painted the bathroom and kitchen, but managed at the same time to fit two cupboards, peel all the stuck on lino tiles off the kitchen floor, clear the garden, mend the gate... sigh of happiness. He also made sure the cat took appropriate care of herself:

That is some decorator, who even leaves notes for the cat! Superb!
Many years ago we painted the outside walls of our house with special paint that was anti-fungal and designed not to go off colour. Special warnings on the tin re harm to pets were ignored by the cat, who got himself covered. I had to trim all the painty bits, he was amazingly compliant and patient. My fault as I'd never thought to teach him to read!
Recently I read some research that stated that many kidney-failure cats died more of lack of nutrition (well, starvation) than actual kidney failure, because of their reluctance to eat enough of their imposed special diets. Better to feed an old sick cat what it will eat was the verdict. Let's hope your cat continues to do well on your compromise regime; you won't worry so much either, I guess.
That decorator sounds a sweetie!
D'you think he'd come to the south of France or the west of Canada? The handyman, I mean. Worth his weight in cat food, by the sound of it.
How wonderful that your handy man left a note for the cat. Great sense of humour.
Glad your cat is doing okay now.
Is he married? (Oh wait, I am.)
Pleeeease, will you send him my way? I desperately need someone to fix all the little and large jobs that have been left undone for a year already.
Gosh - he sounds wonderful find. Love the note for the cat.
Yes, yes.... but where are the pictures of the final results? PICTURES!!!!! WE WANTS 'EM!!!!! 8-)
A reliable, skilled, and cat-friendly handy man? He'd be worth his weight in gold here in NYC.
So glad to hear your beautiful cat is doing better.
That note is a hoot! How dear is such a contractor?
The contentedness of Kitty makes me think I, too, should revert to a Pouch of Food approach.
A scholar and a gentleman by the sound of him!
