It'll Do Wonders For You ...

You know , the minute they smile brightly at you and say , "You never know , you might  really enjoy it " , that you won't .
Not any of it . Not the exercise bike nor the stomach muscle finder/developer . Not the rowing machine nor balancing on the rubber ball and certainly not the treadmill ." I'll just set it at ten minutes , to start with , shall I ?  "
When you've finally struggled your way back into your street clothes and escaped  , it seems altogether fitting that the first thing you see is this mural on the building across the street .

Were they playing hideous music too? Is there a Pilates class anywhere near you? Just as effective as the gym I think but much more peaceful.

What a great mural!

No, I agree. I do exercise because I should not because I enjoy it. Except when I've finished.

It's called January Syndrome. The loss of any sense of your own limitations; thankfully, it's only temporary, and you find that by mid-February, you can let that ridiculous gym membership slip into oblivion.....

Alas ! The torture chamber isn't a sports center ... it's my physiotherapist's office , and her Ladies Fitness Sessions .
Her selling point ? " You don't just have a back , you know . It's attached to your front . You need stomach muscles , too . "
When put like that .....

You’ve joined a gym?
serve you right!

O, I see, right, I forgive you.
In that case you know it won’t be for long and you might as well knuckle under.

IT’S GOOD FOR YOUUUUUUU!

Ah, sessions with the physio. You'll be OK if you follow The Rules:

1. Never say "I can't" because you'll do it anyway.
2. Never say "It's easy" because we'll just make it harder.
3. Never say "I want to go home" because we'll keep you longer.
4. Never lose count because we'll start at one again.
5. Never complain because we never listen.
6. Never argue because you'll never win.
7. Never scream or cry because it only encourages us.
8. Never look like you're enjoying it because we'll soon wipe that smile off your face.
9. Never hold your breath because, if you pass out and die, we have to fill out the paperwork.
10 Never lie or cheat because we know the truth and you will live to regret it.

Strangely, I've become a gym convert. what worked for me was the MP3 loaded with Radio 4 podcasts. Takes your mind off the other stuff.
