It's Raining And Smooth Sophistication Has Been Restored

I was delighted to see grey skies and drizzle this morning , though less delighted when it started pouring while I cycled home from the market , it's true . But this song has been haunting me all week and , quite frankly I was getting a little tired of skipping about ,  chirping "Hip , hip , hip  hooray ! " . Our neighbours  are quite relieved , too , I expect .
Luckily before I turned into a midsummer version of Scrooge , I managed to drag Husband off to Harlingen and we had coffee and apple pie in a little cafè opposite this pretty flower shop in the middle of town

We found an elephant for Small Grandson , too ,  though he'll have to make do with the photo. , poor boy

And these irises are for you ...

Edited .
I've just listened to the song for the first time all the way through and I must apologise for some of the lyrics  .  They're "very of their time ",  I'm afraid .

Oh dear me, yes, there are too many reminders of the bad old days in old tunes. I had no idea. I have never particularly liked this sort of earworm and have never really listened either.

You should come and live in the UK, you’d get your favourite drizzle nearly all the time.

I'm going to have to listen to the song now!

That looks like the elephant from The Elephant and the Bad Baby.

It's always been a favourite with me but, oh dear, oh dear, I'll never be going past the first verse again! Still, what a reminder....

Good lord, that's completely wrong, but makes me laugh anyway... I'm an awful person, I know. Someday you should try listening to the original version of "Let's Fall in Love" as sung by the great Billie Holiday. The first line was later changed to "Birds do it, bees do it" but was originally "Chinks do it, Japs do it, up in Lapland little Laps do it...". Again, just a sign of the times - they didn't think anything of it at the time. Old movies are the same... loads of stereotypes flying around in black and white films!

Our Spring is so very behind yours that I'm still waiting to see the first iris in a week or two!

And now, having read of your time at the cafe, all I want is pie.

Thank you for the irises. I love the yellow flags.
