Amazing

A Grumbling Sonata :

It's still snowing sporadically but the warmth from the window seems to have liberated a couple of the pansies in the window box .

I , on the other hand , am not a hardy winter variety and must climb into everything wooly I possess to go off to the shops for Christmas treats . Well , I say treats ....food of any kind would do by this stage . Given that our larder seems to be stocked with Roasted Tomatoes , coffee and raisins , I need to get to the nearest supermarket ....walking through aforementioned snow , with a rucksack .

All this "We live in town , we don't need a car and the trains are so good ", rather fails when you can't even find the bike path , let alone cycle on it .

And the trains ? All the points are frozen ( from one side of Europe to the other , it seems ) . And a lot are still gas-warmed . Guess what ? The snow puts the little burst of flame out ! Who'd have thought it .

This was Saturday ....now the river is frozen over .

I'm really sorry to be envious. But I can’t stop. And I do sympathise – the London ‘there's a leaf on the track, or it's the wrong kind of snow, train-halting version' used to give me the pip.

very brave of you - but then I suppose that tomatoes and coffee, even with raisins stirred in, would pall after a time.

My cupboards, on the other hand, are stuffed full - a food hoarder's dream - but I can never find anything I fancy when I have to rely on my stores.

Happy Christmas!

there was some idiot cycling in in rush hour, in the almost dark... and with 6 inches of fresh stuff..on the side of the right hand lane of three busy lanes of highway traffic (which was already narrow due to snowplows leaving a huge pile the previous week... arrrgghh... we all had to slow to a crawl or stop..which isn't safe on highways anyway... then, wait for a space and dart into the middle lane to get around him without knocking him off his stupid bike. I yelled at my husband to get closer so I could open the door and do just that...idiot! they can take trains, buses or get rides with friends in this weather ... no gas warming fizzling out here ...everything is used to running in -40C and does so regularly. But, no ... for some reason they'd rather risk life and limb and every car and driver just to ride for whatever silly reason. I'm tempted to wait for him tonight (he does it every single day) ... with my shovel... that'll knock him off the rush hour road....

It'll be worth it really - just think of all the wonderful treats you can have when you get back...

Hmmmm, I'm not sure that we should encourage bike rage as advocated by BumbleVee, especially given the skill and dexterity it must take to navigate a bicycle in snow and ice...

I can see that a limited diet of roasted tomatoes, coffee and raisins could be incentive to try such a daring feat though.

May your larder be full, your points de-frosted and Christmas and New Year be fabulous.

Hello...thank you for your lovely comments on my blog.
We have only had a sprinkle of snow here unlike the rest of the country!
Wishing you both a happy Christmas!

Goodness it looks cold! We just had our warmest night since 1965 and a bug flew into my eye while I was on the computer. Ick.

Hope you managed to get some food and treats in. And wishing you a very Merry Christmas! And a happy new year!

Sonata let me know if you need air lifting, emergency food parcels, flares and tin foil - although I expect you can always nick some from around the turkey if needs must. I bedded my cycle down for the winter a few weeks ago, I know when I'm beat! Take care both of you, and I look forward to your respective posts next year, liZZie XX
