Chainsaw Massacre

Sonata :

I hope the Mayor saw this

We had 8 of these beauties
in the little open space at the end of our street . There's a big climbing frame in the middle that the neighbourhood children love and , when it's hot in the summer , everyone hauls chairs outside to drink tea and chat .

Now we have 8 of these

and we're all stunned . They were top-heavy apparently .....? But aren't all trees ?
The children spontaneously pinned protest notes on all the stumps . After heavy rain melted them , one young lad came back and carefully removed all the drawing pins and took them home .

Tomorrow is the annual Flower Market in town , wholeheartedly promoted by the Town Hall .
Irony ?

Oh no...how sad. I can't bear for trees to be cut down. I hope someone gets the message, made even more profound by the fact that it was the children who made the signs...

I cannot muster a witty comment for you tonight because THIS SORT OF THING MAKES MY BLEEPING BLOOD BOIL AND I CAN ONLY SHOUT IN CAPITAL LETTERS.

Yet another reason why government officials suck goat ballocks.

You're kidding! Just plain stupid. And incredibly ignorant.

Civic vandalism. How very, very sad. So brutal. We need more trees and green stuff in our environment, not less.

Is it possible that they might 'regenerate' from the top - as if they had been pollarded? I tried enlarging your picture to see if I could find what sort of tree they were but was unable.

Chainsaws are such destructive, efficient machines. They can do their work in a few minutes what took decades to create.

They do it here too and I go bonkers. Civic vandalism as Moutnainear said. Laziness is the other word I'd use laziness because they cannot be bothered to look after the trees! Sorry blood boiling!

They were a sort of maple . Yes , I suppose they will sprout eventually , but won't , of course , look the same . It had taken ages for them to become as nice as they were .... till a few days ago .

There may be a reason for pruning them so drastically. Go and find out.
Some trees need a chop now and again for regeneration. You never know, they may be back to full glory in a couple of years' time rather than withering. That's what I hope anyway.

I just can't understand why trees can't be cut back a bit and LEFT ALONE. You know from my blog how I feel about trees!

"Top heavy" was the reason for THAT???? Awful awful awful. Has no one there ever heard of "trimming"???
My God, that's shocking.

Two things that seem obvious to me:

1. If there are trees growing somewhere, put the power lines somewhere ELSE.

2. If there are power lines, plant the trees somewhere ELSE.

By following these two rules, the problem would be solved, no?
