Greenery-Yallery , Flame Red ... Or Something In Between ?

Sonata:

What colour was your weekend ?

Last weekend here was a muted tasteful blue-grey with flecks of rust and the odd blush of old apricot .

But the weatherman seemed mildly optimistic about this weekend , so I hoped for something a bit jollier .

It started off well enough .

On Friday , after work , a wander through the local ceramic museum to look at the Chinese porcelain exhibition "10,000 x Happiness !" and a little detour to my favourite treasure , the C17 Spanish tiles , had just the warm glow I needed . And a pepper and tomato salad followed by strawberries completed the job .

On Saturday I'd wanted to visit a tiny house in a village nearby , filled with Ruurd Wiersmas's naive paintings but the clouds massed till the drizzle was unremitting . Not a day to cycle anywhere . Never mind . The term finally ends on Friday and it can't rain all summer , can it ? There'll be another chance to go .

Luckily all this rain is , at least , making the herbs grow in the back yard ..... though the tomatoes won't ripen till 2012 , at this rate .

So today I just listened to "The Wind In The Willows" being read by Derek Jacobi and assembled a stack of fabric for a quilt I'm planning for a little boy . I blame Mr. Jacobi for the Irish flag-ness of the final choice .... why did he give the otter an Irish accent ?

And what, pray, is wrong with an Irish coloured quilt? Fine selection of fabrics, if you ask me! My own w.e. was very muted, gray, blending into hazy green......

Last week in Devon was orange and poppy red and the mahogany brown of helenium Moorheim Beauty. Sunday was wet and various blurring shades of grey!

It's going to look lovely even if it is Irish-tinged!

I haven't heard that rendition; I must look in the library for it.

"The Wind in the Willows" read by Derek Jacobi??? Where does one get hold of THAT, I wonder? Investigations will ensue. I adore. ADORE. Derek Jacobi. In this household, "wanna watch Brother Cadfael?" is a regularly heard phrase.

If you have basil growing out there, put an umbrella over it and a moat around it! Too much rain makes it woody.
As we have learned to our sorrow.

Such a lovely coloured weekend you had. Wonderful post. The quilt will be very nice. The little sailing boats made me smile. I hope they will have the same effect on the boy ;-)

The weekend was typically summery provençal - all deep blue sky and white light. I quite like your pile of fabric, your flat roads, having a tiny house nearby and being able to grow basil. (Baasil, baysil - which is it??)

I don't know Derek but if they gave him the job of reading 'The Wind In The Willows' he must be a nice guy.

will mainly grey do?
A bit boring, but then remember where I live.
It's too hilly for pushbikes on top of everything else.

Sigh, oh bleedin' sigh.
