A Bit Of Peace

It's been rather busy , lately . I seem to be running a drop-in centre for ergo therapists , case workers and community nurses at the moment and lovely though they all are , it's left me with a temporary reluctance to drink any more coffee or the mental agility to string more than three words together .

In an attempt to escape any more conversations about Track'n'Trace insoles , I jumped on a train the other day and went to a museum .

The Secret Of Dresden isn't a huge exhibition , more a sort of family collection had one's ancestors done the Grand Tour and brought back a Canaletto and the odd Watteau

I was particularly interested in the boats since , now it's warmer , our river is getting busier again , though not usually with quite such pretty craft .

As usual , The Groninger Museum had mounted it beautifully and there was peace and space to admire the details .

I want a velvet pelisse now , though not fur trimmed

and a fountain like this would be nice ...

It wasn't busy so I sat and relaxed in borrowed comfort for a moment or two .

Afterwards I went into town for lunch and , given that I'm busily reading my way through all the Kate Ellis detective stories I can get my hands on at the moment , it was serendipitious to look up  and see this

Oh good , a reason , were one needed , to go back ...

Oh dear. You have my sympathies. But at least you got out and I love the idea of this being a collection from an imaginary Grand Tour. Very pleasing. I went to the Barbican recently to see their exhibition of "collections". Made me feel very restrained in my own habits.

Kate Ellis detective stories? Should I try her? Not that I suffer from a surfeit of professional attendants but there’s a bit of the 'being on call' in my life too and reading decent thrillers is such a wonderful escape.

Wearing pelisse at the same time just might add that certain frisson . . . . .

So that's a pelisse! Wikipedia has more, and very interesting it is too.

I'd love to be able to jump on a train to have a bit of time away; here we have to steel ourselves for a long winding journey (45 minutes or more on a bad day) just to get to a railway station!

I hope you got that head space you needed visiting the museum. That velvet & fur jacket does look so beautiful, very enticing. Thanks for introducing me to a museum that I'd never hear of. Museums are my thing.

What a fabulous museum. I love small museums and going on your own is the height of luxury. Have you been to the Sir John Soane museum in London? that has the same flavour of one person's passions.
