To Be Honest , Left to Myself .....

Sonata:
I'd probably have chosen to have a cat but somehow we seem instead to have been adopted by a butterfly . A red one . Yes , in December ....
He spends all day in the sitting room , snoozing and staring out of the window and flies around a lot in the evening . He's very companionable , sitting next to me on the sofa

peering over occasionally to see if I'm as keen on the television programme as he is . He really likes the news and the impending Royal birth is of particular interest  . He flies over and sits on the screen for the updates , though that might have more to do with all the flash photography every time anyone comes out of the hospital .
Before the Dutch version of the RSPCA get too worried in case I'm about to make a habit of enticing wild life into the house , I should really point out that I haven't kidnapped him and if I could persuade him to hibernate till it was safe for him to leave again I would . But I suspect he's like the dried one I found in the cupboard upstairs in the summer , seasonally challenged . He wouldn't like it outside today anyway .
There's a wonderfully swirling snow storm and freezing slush out there . In here there's stew , stoofperen and wine , the house smells of cloves and there're are Christmas cards to write . And for B'fly  there's a bowl of water and the promise of another Paparazzi extravagaza on the News at Ten .

This must be a first! A pet flutterby.....I had a clump of Mexican petunias in the garden this summer that was like Mecca for butterflies! They flocked to it and I often had to drop everything and grab my camera and give chase! At summer's end there were a few desicated fellows tied by a large spider to the underside of the flowers they loved so much. He was partial to butterflies for lunch, though I myself would prefer your delicious sounding concoctions...

I think it's just charming to have a pet butterfly (or moth, as I suspect your guest to be) to watch tv with, etc.

He's a peacock butterfly and very lovely as well! Do you have a cellar or loft (lofts are good as they can get back out in spring) for him to retreat to? Good job you don't have a cat as they are keen snackers on wildlife...

Please be wary I think your new friend may be a bit of a fly b'night, lets say 'a social butterfly' best friends one minute, then suddenly loving the neighbours!
I had a starling called Robert, for sometime, I taught him to fly, although he was a reluctant flyer, he took over the dogs bed, and followed her around, which she found somewhat off putting.
then one sunny morning he was sitting in the sugar bowl, (having breakfast in the garden) I went in doors for something, when i got back he was gone! how sad and happy was i, i was convinced i saw him for a few years after that, which was pretty mad seeing how all starlings look the same, I would shout out welcoming hailsd, of hi Robert! is that you robert, eyeing up the starings.....glad i did not have neighbours then.
What a lovely, amusingly written post to read this cold and icy morning, thanks.

How lovely to have a pet butterfly. We have a robin ( or maybe 2 robins...how can you tell? ) who comes to the window bird feeder for dried worms. He/she always looks in at us, and sometimes tweets as well before taking the food. It feels like a pet robin!

To be chosen by a butterfly seems to me a Very Special Honour. And such a beautiful butterfly!

He really seems to be studying you. Perhaps he has a blog. Cards to write here too but I am putting it off.

How cool is that? Very!

I used to have a boa constrictor that loved to watch TV with me. He'd stretch out on my legs and prop his chin on the toe of my boot (when my feet were up on the coffee table, which they always are).

What a kind human you are! Did you offer the little creature a sip of wine instead water? I fear its days are numbered so it may as well enjoy what life has to offer.
