Woolly All Over

Sonata:

It was 3 degrees Celsius this morning . A chill mist enveloped everything , me included , as I pedalled along the river bank to work . Perhaps it's time to embrace head-to-toe wool

and a brave face ?

or an alluring balaclava ?

My grandmother was of the opinion that one could never look one's best when one was cold so , at the very least , I ought to buy 12 balls of Sunbeam Cilicia and get cracking .

I'm rather enamoured with head-to-toe wool. Although I'm guessing that would also involve saggy knee, elbow and bottom bits.

And that's without the wool !

Those children look like they're so heavily muffled up that they can't move their arms!

I can remember pre-fleece woollies. Very itchy!

Oh dear, now I'm remembering the fleecy liberty bodice, with little rubbery buttons...what did they button on to? And the navy blue school knickers with a pocket for a hankie...am I really so old? But at least I didn't have a knitted swimming costume!

Unfortunately , I did !

oooh, but I love the look of those knitted swimming costumes - especially the mid-thigh legged striped ones... just not sure how there wasn't the threat of instant drowning.

They look so glamorous, in an young Katherine Hepburn kind of way.

My favorite winter item to crochet is the "hoodie scarf" - you just tack on a large square, tight-stitched, onto the center of a scarf, and fold it in half to make a hood, and seam it. I like to run a ruff of eyelash yarn or fur around the hood edge, to give it pizazz. They make great gifts, and I wear the one I made for myself all winter! You can leave the hood flipped down if weather doesn't warrant, but when come the whipping winter winds, there's nothing quite as toasty because it protects the back of your neck too.
